The 1914 Baltimore Terrapins opened up the Federal League inaugural season on April 13, 1914. They treated their fans with an exciting 3-2 win over visiting Buffalo. Across the street on that very day, a rookie lefthander playing for the Baltimore Orioles of the minor league American Assocation was making his professional debut, Babe Ruth.

The Terrapins were a well balanced team of good pitching and hitting. Their pitchers led the league in strikeouts with a combined staff number of 732. The team finished in third place, only 4 1/2 games behind front-running Indianapolis.
